NFTA Parks Adventure Bus Returns

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) is excited to announce the return of the Parks Adventure Bus, providing free rides every Saturday to local parks and beaches around Western New York. The NFTA is bringing the service back for a third year thanks to partnerships with the New York State Office of Parks Recreation & Historic Preservation, the Erie County Parks Department, the Department of Environmental Conservation, and Congressman Tim Kennedy.

Residents and visitors alike can hop on board the Parks Adventure Bus and embark on a journey to discover the picturesque parks and scenic beaches that Western New York has to offer.

“I applaud the NFTA for their creativity behind the Parks Adventure Bus, helping WNY residents to access parks, beaches, and recreational activities that they wouldn’t have access to otherwise. Now in its 3rd year, ridership is stronger than ever and is anticipated to continue growing. Thank you for helping families to beat the heat, explore WNY, and create new memories,” stated Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes.

“For anyone looking for a quick and convenient free ride to check out our Erie County parks this summer I recommend a ride on the NFTA’s Parks Adventure Bus,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “We have 10,000 acres to explore and the NFTA is making it easier than ever to get there, so don’t miss your chance to get outside with family and friends to find your next adventure in our Erie County parks!”

Whether it's a tranquil stroll through lush greenery, a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters, or a fun-filled picnic with family and friends, the Parks Adventure Bus provides convenient and eco-friendly transportation to eight outdoor destinations.

"Last year, the NFTA saw a 22% increase in the usage of their Park Adventure Bus from 2022, and I’m proud that the service is returning this year to serve our community members who may not have access to our beautiful County parks otherwise," said Erie County Legislature Chairwoman April N.M. Baskin. “Our parks should be accessible to everyone in our community, and it takes intentional steps like the one the NFTA is making with the Park Adventure Bus service to ensure accessibility exists.”

In addition to promoting outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship, the Parks Adventure Bus supports the NFTA's commitment to enhancing community well-being and fostering a sense of belonging among residents. By making it easier for people to access natural spaces, the initiative contributes to the region's overall quality of life and encourages a healthier, more active lifestyle. In 2023, the Parks Adventure Bus connected approximately 800 Western New Yorkers to area parks.

“New York State Parks is thrilled to once again be partnering with the NFTA and Erie County for the Parks Adventure Bus. We are so grateful to the NFTA for providing this service, building on the success of the program from the first two years and allowing for this highly anticipated third year. State Parks is proud and eager to show off our local parks to everyone who participates this summer,” said Mark V. Mistretta, Niagara Region Director.

Service will begin June 8th and every Saturday through August 3, with a possible make-up day on Saturday, August 17th, departing from the bus station in downtown Buffalo (181 Ellicott Street).

Parks served include:

  • Chestnut Ridge Park
