NOTICE OF AVAILABILILTY OF THE DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMEMENT (DEIS) AND DRAFT SECTION 4(f) EVALUATION FOR THE BUFFALO-AMHERST-TONAWANDA CORRIDOR TRANSIT EXPANSION PROJECT
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA), as lead Federal agency and the Niagara Frontier Transit Metro System, Inc. (Metro), as local project sponsor and joint lead agency announce the availability of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and Draft Section 4(f) Evaluation for the proposed Buffalo-Amherst-Tonawanda Corridor Transit Expansion Project (the Proposed Project). The DEIS describes the potential social, economic, and environmental effects that may result from the Proposed Project. Where adverse impacts are identified, potential measures to mitigate those effects are described. The Draft Section 4(f) Evaluation documents the Proposed Project in terms of its compliance with the requirements of Section 4(f). Metro is proposing to expand high-quality transit service in the corridor from the existing Metro Rail terminus at University Station, along Kenmore Avenue, Niagara Falls Boulevard, Maple Road, and Sweet Home Road, through the University at Buffalo North Campus to Audubon Parkway and I-990.
FTA and Metro invite interested members of the public, tribes, and agencies to provide comments on the DEIS and Draft Section 4(f) Evaluation, including the alternatives considered, environmental impacts identified, and proposed mitigation measures. The DEIS and Draft Section 4(f) Evaluation are available for public review at the Project website: http://nftametrotransitexpansion.com. Metro will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 6:00pm at Sweet Home Middle School located at 4150 Maple Road, Amherst, NY 14226 to provide an opportunity for public comment on the DEIS and Draft Section 4(f) Evaluation. Individuals who require special assistance, such as translation, captioning or signing services to participate in the public hearing should make a request by August 12, 2025 by calling (716) 855-7382 or emailing transitexpansion@nfta.com.
