NFTA raises Pan-African Flag in Commemoration of Juneteenth

BUFFALO, N.Y. –  The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA)  celebrated Juneteenth with a ceremonial raising of the Pan-African Flag at its headquarters at 181 Ellicott Street in downtown Buffalo, Friday.

The event recognized the significance of June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in the United States learned of their freedom, marking a pivotal moment in American history. NFTA Executive Leadership joined Juneteenth representatives, community leaders, and guests for the ceremony, which served as an opportunity to reflect on freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.

During the event, attendees gathered to honor the legacy of those who fought for liberation and to recognize the continued importance of advancing equity and inclusion throughout the community. The Pan African Flag raising underscored NFTA’s commitment to celebrating the diverse cultures and histories that help shape Western New York and the communities it serves.
