  4. PUBLIC MEETINGS SCHEDULED FOR NFTA-METRO’S BAILEY AVE BUS RAPID TRANSIT PROJECT

Public Meetings Scheduled for NFTA-Metro’s Bailey Ave Bus Rapid Transit Project

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA-Metro) has announced the first set of public meetings for its  Bailey Ave Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project. The community is encouraged to attend any of three public meetings:

  •  Thursday, Feb 6, 2025 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Gerard Place, 2515 Bailey Ave.
  •  Saturday, Feb 8, 2025 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Boys and Girls Club of Erie County, 2061 Bailey Ave.
  • Zoom on Thursday, Feb 13, 2025 from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. Register for the Zoom webinar at: https://tinyurl.com/bdeukxxc.

The content for each meeting will be identical. Attendees will be provided with valuable information on the history of the project, planning and analysis to support the BRT service, and be part of the draft design concepts. The Project Team will be available to answer questions.  The two in-person open-house meetings will allow attendees to share their feedback on the overall project and intersection concepts. Light refreshments will be provided. The virtual open house will include a presentation and a question-and-answer session, where participants’ questions will be addressed.

The historic and transformational project is made possible thanks to U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand securing $102 million dollars in federal grants (DOT). Additional funding was provided by New York Governor Kathy Hochul, former NYS Senator, Congressman Tim Kennedy and the entire Western New York delegation.

NFTA-Metro, along with partners like the City of Buffalo, are building on prior studies to take the next steps to plan, design, construct, and implement BRT on Bailey Avenue, along with other infrastructure improvements.

BRT routes have shorter wait times, special traffic signals and lanes for buses, and “stations” that make for a more comfortable passenger experience. The Bailey Ave BRT project also includes upgrades to the sidewalks and streets to make the entire corridor safer. More information on the project can be found at NFTA-Metro | Bailey Avenue BRT.

Public input is essential to the planning process and developing an accessible corridor for all. Please join us to learn about the project and share your thoughts on the Bailey Ave BRT project.

To request a language or ASL interpreter for any of these three public meetings, please contact Julie Boasi at julie@highland-planning.com or (585) 649-1291.
